How much fragrance oil belongs in a candle cannot be answered with a single universal percentage.

The suitable amount of fragrance depends, among other things, on the specific wax, the fragrance composition, the wick, the vessel, and the desired scent throw. Even professional wax manufacturers provide different processing instructions and fragrance amounts depending on the wax type. For example, Cargill recommends different loads and processing conditions for certain NatureWax applications than for other wax types.

Is there a general maximum for soy wax?

No.

A statement such as:

"Soy wax tolerates a maximum of 12% fragrance oil"

is too general.

Even within a single wax family, different products can vary significantly. A technical data sheet from Cargill, for example, states 6% as the recommended maximum fragrance amount for one NatureWax type, while higher loads are only described under additional conditions. It is not "soy wax" or "rapeseed wax" alone that determines the maximum fragrance amount, but the specific wax product.

Why more fragrance oil does not automatically mean more fragrance

  • Air movement in the room.
